The model will debut soon featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain
Geely Group member Lynk & Co is ready
to unveil a brand-new model, previewing it in a series of teasers on social
media. The Lynk & Co 08 is a mid-size five-seater SUV with sporty styling
cues and electrified underpinnings.
The teasers are quite revealing, in combination
with the official photos of camouflaged prototypes that give away the
five-seater SUV nature of the new offering. The 08 adopts the latest evolution
of Lynk & Co’s styling language, which is quite similar to another Geely
brand, Zeekr. The upper
section of the split headlights looks sharper and more elongated than previous
Lynk & Co models, reaching much closer to the windshield. Other parts of
the bodywork we get to see include the slim bumper intakes, the trim elements
on the front doors which are connected to the base of the mirrors and house
ADAS sensors, plus the elongated LED taillights.
Inside, the model features a large infotainment
touchscreen in portrait orientation mounted on the center of the minimalist
dashboard. More importantly, the SUV will introduce the new so-called Flyme
Auto system by Meizu, bringing sophisticated connectivity features and plenty
of customization options including a split-screen function. Parent company
Geely Group bought Meizu last year, meaning that the system will likely find
its way to more models.
The Lynk & Co 08 rides on the CMA 2.0
architecture which will also be used by the upcoming successor of the Volvo XC60. Like other
Lynk & Co models, the 08 is expected to feature a plug-in hybrid
powertrain, combining a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine with electric motors.
The market launch of the Lynk & Co 08 in China
is expected in the third quarter of the year. It will be the seventh addition
to Lynk & Co’s local range, next to the 01, 02, 03, 05, 06, and
09 (plus the 04 electric scooter). We expect to learn more about the
electrified SUV at the Shanghai Auto Show which opens its doors on April 18.
There is also a chance we get a sneak peek on March 30, at a scheduled
conference held by Lynk & Co and Meizu.
